The Frantz Oil Cleaner/Filters are a depth type by-pass filter in which oil from the engine flows very slowly through a dense filter media and is thoroughly cleaned. Depth Filtration (as opposed to Surface Filtration) is universally recognized as the most efficient. The design of the Frantz Filters provide over 4 inches of filter media depth through which the oil or fluid must pass. No other filter design approaches this media depth and resulting efficiency.
With the Frantz Filters, the oil/fluid enters the filter through the center fitting; a 1/16" restrictor orifice in the

filter base, which controls the flow rate through the filter. The oil/fluid flows upward through the center tube and then downward through the filter media. As the clean oil leaves the filter media, it passes through a fine screen assembly to the outlet fitting. Because of the low velocity of the oil passing through the dense filter paper, it is easily separated from the contaminant particles which are readily disposed of when changing the filter paper element. The Frantz Oil Cleaner/Filters protect every precision part of your engine against wear by removing the smallest harmful particles as well as up to six ounces of water.
For the longest time people have been told that "Oil Wears Out" and "Oil Breaks Down." This is not completely accurate! There are three important facts as to why your oil may break down or wear out; those are dirt & other contaminants, water and temperature. With a properly maintained vehicle, the installation and recommended service of a Frantz Filter, your oil will stay clean and free of water.
Your mechanic probably never told you that Dirt is the Primary Cause of Engine Wear! Past studies have shown that when used engine oil was filtered so that solid particle size did not exceed 1 micron (approximately .00004 inches) the wear on compression rings was reduced by 80% and wear on oil rings was reduced by 50%. Whether it is sludge deposits, hard carbon particles, atmospheric dirt or worn metal from the engine, these contaminants are the primary cause of engine wear! A Frantz Filter will remove particles as small as 1/10 of a Micron with a dense and correctly installed filter media element!
